Cosmetic Wastewater Treatment
------Daily treatment capacity of 5 tons, integrated air flotation + anoxic + aerobic + MBR process
A small cosmetic production enterprise generates wastewater containing oils, surfactants, organic solvents, and trace heavy metals during production. According to the owner's requirements, The treated water needs to meet the discharge standards, and part of it will be disinfected and reused for the greening of the factory area.
Wastewater Characteristics:
1)Complex Composition: COD 2500 mg/L, BOD 800 mg/L, SS 300 mg/L, containing trace mineral oils and emulsions.
2)High Variability: Fluctuations in water quality and quantity due to batch production differences.
3)Moderate Biodegradability: Contains partially refractory organics (e.g., fragrances, preservatives).
Adopted a "physicochemical pretreatment + biological treatment + advanced membrane filtration" combined process to ensure effluent compliance.
1. Equalization Tank (2 m³)
Function: Homogenizes water quality and quantity to buffer fluctuations.
Design: Equipped with agitator to prevent sedimentation.
2. Air Flotation Unit (Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF), capacity 0.5 m³/h)
Function: Removes suspended solids, oils, and colloidal substances.
Parameters: Dosing PAC/PAM/sodium hydroxide.
Efficiency: SS removal ≥85%, oil removal ≥90%
3.Anoxic Reactor (Effective volume 3 m³)
Function: Degrades macromolecular organics and enhances biodegradability.
Parameters: HRT 12 h, temperature 35±2°C, COD volumetric load 2.5 kg/(m³·d).
Efficiency: COD removal ≥60%, B/C ratio increased to >0.4.
4.Aerobic Reactor (A/O process, effective volume 5 m³)
Function: Further degrades organics and ammonia nitrogen.
Parameters: DO 2–4 mg/L, MLSS 3000–4000 mg/L, HRT 18 h.
Efficiency: COD removal ≥85%, ammonia nitrogen removal ≥70%.
5.MBR System (Hollow fiber membrane, pore size 0.1 μm)
Function: High-efficiency solid-liquid separation, retains microbes and suspended solids.
Parameters: Membrane flux 15 L/(m²·h), suction-relaxation cycle 8 min/2 min.
Efficiency: Effluent SS <5 mg/L, COD <50 mg/L, meeting reuse standards.
Features
1)Integrated design: Modular assembly, footprint 15 m².
2)Automated control: PLC system coordinates chemical dosing, aeration, and membrane cleaning.
3)Energy-saving: Low-energy aeration in aerobic stage, MBR with online backwashing.

Operating Costs
1)Electricity: $0.17/ton (main consumption: air flotation, aeration, MBR suction pump).
2)Chemicals:$0.07/ton (PAC/PAM and membrane cleaning agents).
3)Labor: $0.04/ton (fully automated, only requires routine checks).
4)Membrane replacement: Annualized cost $0.15/ton (membrane lifespan 2–3 years).
Technical Advantages
1)Air flotation + anoxic + aerobic + MBR process effectively treats high-organic, refractory cosmetic wastewater.
2)MBR ensures stable effluent quality for direct reuse.
3)Modular design suits small-to-medium enterprises, with short construction period (15 days).
